Movement on Paper

sketchJohn Singer Sargent was a true cosmopolitan. Born in Florence of American parents in 1856, he studied in Germany, trained in France and worked in London. His father was a medical illustrator and his mother a fine amateur artist, so it seems only natural he would go on to become the most successful portrait painter of his time. During his life, he did thousands of sketches. I love the way he captures movement in these drawings of dance poses.
