Madonna’s Tears

To be the mother of Christ must be a difficult role to play. So, no wonder there are many religious statues of Mary with big tears rolling down her cheeks. There were many sorrows in her earthly life and her tears hold a special significance in Catholic doctrine. These ‘Weeping Madonnas‘ represent her pains and are referred to as ‘The Seven Sorrows of Mary’.

Here is a small selection of beautiful sad Madonnas, eyes raised to the heavens. I don’t know in what churches they stand, but most are from Spain and Mexico.
